About Us

The Invisible Illness Pharmacist

I am a proud graduate of Campbell University College of Pharmacy, class of 2008.  I worked as a large chain retail pharmacist from 2008 to 2015, when I had to take a leave of absence due to extreme physical weakness and fatigue. At the time, this was believed to be caused only by mononucleosis. After a lengthy year and a half of appointments and misdiagnoses, I was diagnosed with chronic Lyme Disease.  Later, I was also diagnosed with POTS and Eosinophilic Esophagitis.

Doctors gave me two main responses about Lyme disease.

My illness journey included a lengthy battle with symptoms of skin rashes, debilitating fatigue, muscle weakness, difficulty swallowing, brain fog, dizziness, and elevated heart rate.  In addition, I endured long-term antibiotic treatments to manage Lyme disease.  I also managed POTS symptoms by using recumbent bicycling to return to being able to sit upright and walk.

Even though my life was turned upside down by chronic Lyme Disease and POTS, what could have destroyed me has changed my life for the better.  As a result, I have become a more knowledgeable and empathetic individual and pharmacist. I have a deep understanding of how it feels to be disregarded and cast aside by the healthcare system.  Firsthand experience has taught me the struggles of living with the life-altering symptoms of chronic illness, the high cost of medications, and the battle of wanting to give up. Now, I value the small moments in life because each day is a gift.

I am starting a new chapter in my pharmacy career.  I have decided to use my battle with fighting chronic Lyme Disease, POTS, Eosinophilic Esophagitis, and trauma to impact the way healthcare views chronic infectious diseases and mental health.  I also want to highlight the lives of those suffering from invisible illnesses.  I created this website to make VISIBLE those who are INVISIBLE.

Lastly, I want this website to be a place of encouragement for those who feel like they cannot continue.  God showed me that I was the strongest I have ever been when I was at my weakest.  I did not give up, and neither should you. Never lose your faith in God; keep praying no matter what.  Please join me on this journey to promote illness, healing, and faith.
